1. What a template is

A CaseConnect template is an ordinary Word (.docx) document. Wherever the finished letter should contain live information — a client's name, an address, today's date — you type a merge field instead. When a fee earner generates a document, CaseConnect swaps each merge field for the real value from the matter.

So this in the template:

Dear {{ recipient_salutation }}
 
We write in connection with {{ matter_title }} (our ref: {{ matter_reference }}).

becomes this in the generated letter:

Dear Mrs Smith
 
We write in connection with Smith v Greenfield Homes (our ref: SMI/LIT/2025/0021).
