Fee Share Defaults {#fee-share-defaults}

If your firm regularly shares fees with consultants, or pays a standing percentage to certain introducers, Fee Share Defaults lets you set that up once so it's applied automatically to every new matter, instead of adding it by hand on each one.

Defaults are copied onto a matter at the moment it's created — they are not a live link. Changing or removing a default here never alters a matter that already exists; only matters created afterwards pick up the new setting.

To add a default:

  1. Go to Settings → Fee Share Defaults.

  2. Click Add default.

  3. Choose who it applies to — a fee-earner or an external introducer (same either/or as on a matter).

  4. Choose For whatOrigination — brought the matter in or Work done — did the work.

  5. Enter the Percentage.

  6. Under Only for, choose a specific practice area, or leave it as Every new matter to apply it firm-wide.

  7. Add a note under Why (optional) if useful.

  8. Click Add default.

A firm-wide default and a practice-area default can add up. If you set 40% firm-wide and 80% for Conveyancing, a conveyancing matter is checked against both together — CaseConnect will stop you if the combination would exceed what's allowed, but it's worth setting deliberately rather than by accident.

Click Remove to delete a default. You'll be asked to confirm — matters already created keep whatever shares they were given and are not affected.

See Fee Share for adding, changing or ending a share on an individual matter, and Reports for how these feed into fee-earner and referrer income reporting.
