Fee Share

(Not a report on its own — this section explains the feature that Fee-Earner Income, Income by Referrer and My Income are all built on.)

A fee share records that someone — a fee-earner at your firm, or an external contact such as a consultant or introducer — is entitled to a percentage of a matter's profit costs. There are two kinds:

  • Origination — they brought the matter in.

  • Work done — they did the work. This is optional: if you don't set one, CaseConnect apportions received profit costs across the fee-earners who logged time on the matter automatically, in proportion to what each of them billed. Add a work-done row only where your firm has agreed something different from that default split.

Fee shares are set per matter, on the matter's Billing tab, in the Fee share panel. See Setting up a fee share for how to add one, and Fee Share Defaults for setting a default split that's applied automatically to new matters.

What fee share does not do: it's report-layer only. Setting a share does not create a payable, post anything to your ledger, calculate VAT on the consultant's cut, or pay anyone. If a consultant is owed money, that's handled the normal way — they invoice the firm, and it goes through Accounts like any other supplier payment. Fee share exists so you can see, accurately, what's owed — not to pay it for you.
