Fee Share

If your firm shares fees with consultants or pays introducers for referred work, the Fee share panel on the matter's Billing tab is where you record who's entitled to a share of that matter's profit costs.

This is a Firm Admin action — anyone else can see the panel and who holds a share, but the Add share button and the per-row Change/End controls only appear if you hold the manage_fee_shares permission.

Adding a share

  1. Open the matter, go to the Billing tab, and find the Fee share panel.

  2. Click Add share.

  3. Choose who the share belongs to — either a fee-earner (search your team) or an external introducer (search your contacts). It's one or the other, not both.

  4. Choose For what:

    • Origination — brought the matter in

    • Work done — did the work

  5. Enter the Percentage.

  6. Set Starts — leave it blank to run from the start of the matter, or set a date if the arrangement began partway through.

  7. Add a note under Why (optional) if useful for later reference.

  8. Click Record share.

A matter can carry more than one share, and one person can hold both an origination share and a work-done share on the same matter — they're tracked and reported separately.

Changing or ending a share

  • Change asks only for the new percentage and the date it starts from — CaseConnect handles closing the old arrangement and opening the new one behind the scenes, so the change is dated and the history is kept. Click Apply to confirm.

  • End asks for the last day it applies. Click End this share to confirm. Ended shares stop appearing in reports as payable from that date, and are still visible afterwards under Ended shares on the panel for the record.

Why dating matters: because every change is dated, a report run for last quarter still reflects the split that was actually in force then — changing today's percentage never rewrites last year's figures.

Where this shows up

Recorded shares feed the Fee-Earner Income, Income by Referrer and My Income reports, and the fee-earner's own dashboard. See Fee Share Defaults to set a default split that's applied automatically to new matters instead of adding one by hand each time.
