Conflict of Interest and AML Checks
Before finalising a matter, you can record:
Conflict check status — Not Required, Pending, Cleared, or Conflict Detected
AML check status — Not Required, Pending, Cleared, or AML Check Failed
Both have a notes field for recording the outcome and date.
Running a conflict check
Unlike AML (still a manual sign-off — your firm's own processes determine how AML checks are carried out), the conflict check searches your firm's own records before asking you to decide:
Open the matter and go to the Overview tab.
Find the Conflict Check card and click Run Conflict Check (or Re-run Conflict Check if one has been done before).
CaseConnect automatically searches for the matter's client and all non-client parties (opposing parties, witnesses, etc.) against:
Every other matter your firm can see, for a client-is-opposing-party-elsewhere or opposing-party-is-client-elsewhere overlap.
Your firm's Contacts records, for a same-named contact that exists in the CRM but isn't yet linked to any matter — shown separately as a weaker signal, since it's a name match rather than a confirmed overlap.
Any matches are listed at the top of the modal before you make a decision.
Choose a result — Cleared, Pending review, or Conflict detected — and add notes if useful. Save.
A match is a prompt to use your judgement, not an automatic block — a firm may legitimately clear a "conflict" that turns out to be the same client on a related matter. Whatever matches were found are automatically appended to the saved notes, so the evidence behind the decision is kept even without a separate results log. Re-running the check later replaces the auto-search summary in the notes rather than stacking a second copy on top.
The search only catches exact name matches (case-insensitive) — it does not yet catch typos, maiden names, or transliterations. If you already know of a conflict, don't rely solely on the search finding it — record it in the notes regardless of what the search shows.
